Meet Dr. Wong
Hill Health internal medicine physician Kelly Wong, M.D., said her parents encouraged her to follow in their footsteps as a businesswoman since her childhood.
Dr. Wong had different plans, however.
A lifelong interest in science led her to pursue a career in medicine. Since starting her medical practice, she's discovered she enjoys so much more about being a doctor than just applying her knowledge of science.
"Being a doctor is not only about treating the patient and having extensive medical knowledge. It's also a combination of understanding each patient's medical, social and family background in order to provide the best care," says Dr. Wong, who practices in Hill Health's Oakland patient-centric medical group.
Dr. Wong, is fluent in English, basic Mandarin Chinese and Myanmar, and enjoys sharing her medical expertise with patients and being a partner in care with them.
"I listen to my patients' concerns first. I use evidence-based medicine to share information to help us reach the best decisions about my patients' healthcare."
For Dr. Wong, it's not just about making diagnoses and utilizing her medical knowledge to care for patients. She feels an important aspect of the doctor-patient relationship is helping her patients cope with the stress of a new diagnosis or health concern and being available to them anytime.
"I'm here to help my patients whenever they need me. I want them to know they're not alone," adds Dr. Wong.
Having recently joined the Hill Health practice, Dr. Wong finds the group practice environment very fulfilling. She appreciates having access to the expertise of her colleagues, as well as the ability to care for patients as a team. In addition to providing care in the clinic, she also cares for patients in nursing home settings.
In her spare time, Dr. Wong unwinds from her busy schedule by cooking her native Southeast Asian dishes. She also enjoys traveling to new places to enjoy the beauty of the world and experience the foods, languages and people of different cultures.
