Meet Dr. Terashima
Growing up in Japan, Hiroshi Terashima, M.D., a Hill Health internal medicine doctor in Oakland, developed an early interest in becoming a doctor.
“I always had a deep respect for what doctors did,” he says. “I was drawn to helping people and making a difference in their lives. I also have a very curious and inquiring nature, so practicing medicine satisfies me intellectually.”
After 34 years, in practice, Dr. Terashima says he still learns something new every day. He is fluent in Japanese and sees patients from very diverse backgrounds. “I really enjoy learning about my patients and helping them improve their health,” he adds. “I feel very fortunate to be a part of their lives.”
Dr. Terashima encourages patients to take an active role in making decisions about their health, adding that he can provide suggestions and support, but ultimately, it’s up to the individual to make lifestyle changes that will improve their health.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Terashima enjoys reading mysteries, hiking in the Oakland Hills, and spending time with his wife and two dogs. He and his wife have two adult children.
